- You will conduct your own scientific research as part of collaborative research projects and also contribute to collaborative work related to, yet beyond the focus of your own PhD research..
- You will take part in the doctoral training program of the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences with a view to obtaining a doctoral degree within four years. - You will be expected to go on an international study visit abroad (minimum 1 month and up to 6 months); you will be encouraged to apply for relevant international workshops, meetings and conferences.
- The PhD position is embedded in the Leuven-based research project RESPECT (REcognition:
a SocialPsychology of (in)Equity and Critical acTion) and connected to the international Horizon Challenges project RAISE (Recognition and Acknowledgement of Injustice to Strengthen Equality).
The PhD research will theorize and empirically establish the contextual affordances and relational dynamics of mutual respect / recognition across racialized ethnic categories or groups.
Studies will be conducted in real-life ethnically diverse settings and socio-political contexts with a special focus on intersectional inequities and alliances as levers of critical awareness and action.
The project will make use of large-scale national and internationally comparative, multi-level and longitudinal survey data and will newly add on social network data and vignette experiments.
The project findings will jointly contribute to our social-psychological understanding of when and how cross-ethnic relationships can challenge discriminatory ways of relating and empower minoritized persons and communities. - You will also be assigned teaching assistance tasks such as giving guidance to our Master thesis students and supporting teaching of our social and culturalpsychology courses. - And you will take up some academic responsibilities for hosting, mentoring or coordinating visitors/activities within CSCP together with your peers and on a rotating basis.The Center for Social and CulturalPsychology is a vibrant research group in the fields of migration and ethnic relations, culture and acculturation, emotion and motivation.
We share a common research interest in psychological aspects of cultural diversity, inequality and inclusion with a special focus on perspectives from minoritized groups and persons.
We use state-of-the-art research methods from qualitative and mixed methods to advanced statistical analyses of comparative and longitudinal, contextual and multi-level, dyadic and network data.
The group offers an internationally oriented and challenging, supportive and collaborative research and training environment to young researchers with weekly brown bag seminars and a yearly writing retreat, regular consultations with your PhD (co-)advisers, an extensive international academic network and exchange opportunities.
Our Center is part of the Personality and SocialPsychology Research and Methodology research unit (MICAS) at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences.
We offer fulltime employment for the duration of 1 year, to be renewed yearly for up to 4 years maximum.
