The LinuxEngineer will be responsible also for resolving user issues, address change management requests, and identifies potential issues by implementing protective and security measures.
The LinuxEngineer reports to the Head, Platform Infrastructure Management Section to support underlying platforms and supporting engineers within Infrastructure Branch Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Contribute to a team responsible for the availability, scalability, and performance of NCSC environment and tools such as ( eg.
ArcSight, Splunk, MISP and others) Maintain and develop custom systems and tools to improve ability to test, integrate, automate and effectively monitor custom and commercial applications in NCSC Linux environment; Support the Initiation, preparation, follow-up and defence of the specialist applications upgrades in front of the Change Management Board.
Assist in the rollout and deployment of new features and installations inside the NCIRC perimeter Create extensive documentation for current and future configuration processes and policies; Develop and maintain O&M Standard Operating Procedures for developed capabilities, implementing testing strategies and document results.
Diagnoses and troubleshoots problems inside NCSC environment related to Linux O/S's and their integration with the rest of infrastructure (e.g.
AD Domain, SSO solution, web solution, Log Aggregation) Generate solutions to complex problems which integrate into NCSC environment Identify issues and create improvement processes to help with the reduction of incidents / outage times Work with Service Management team on standard operating procedures including Incident, Problem and Change Management to ensure the monitoring of the systems Requirements Skill, Knowledge & Experience:
The candidate must have a currently active NATO COSMIC TOP SECRET security clearance Essential to have a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science combined with a minimum of 5 years' experience in as LinuxEngineer or similar position, or a Secondary education and completed advanced vocational education (loading to a professional qualification or professional accreditation) with 7 years post related experience, with demonstrated experience in following areas:
Mandatory Minimum 5 years of experience managing Unix/Linux infrastructure and related tools.
Advanced proficiency in Linux server administration, particularly RHEL and Ubuntu.
Strong understanding of Automation, Versioning and CMDB Principles in DevOps perspective Proficiency in troubleshooting and diagnosing complex Linux system issues, including networking, storage, and security.
Deep understanding of Identify and Access Management (AD, SUDO, Extras permissive attributes) Desirable Experience with Red Hat Satellite and packaging Good knowledge on Observability practices.
Experience with containerization tools like Podman and Docker.
Experience with Atlassian tools for tasks and documentation Knowledge of virtualization on-premises (VMware is a plus) Participation in the open-source community and contribution to relevant projects.
