This is a varied role requiring excellent teamworking and communication skills as well as the ability to build strong, trusted relationships with senior internal stakeholders and client contacts, and to work collaboratively with brand, marketing, communications, research and business development specialists across our global firm.TMT (Technology, Media & Telecoms) is a key sector within Freshfields, lying at the very heart of our growth plans for the whole organization.

This growth was underpinned by the addition in 2020 of our Silicon Valley office.

We have close relationships with several of the world’s leading clients in these sectors, ranging from large Tech multinationals based on the US’s West Coast to exciting new disrupters evolving into industry household names.

With this context, the role holder will be responsible for working collaboratively as part of the Global Business Development team for TMT to:

Respond to the specific challenges and opportunities for TMT, then develop and execute a focused marketing and business development strategy that strengthens relationships with existing clients, targets new work and builds the global reputation of the firmCreate and manage compelling credentials, proposals and pitches to respond to fast turn-around bids, strategic panels or other opportunities to win work for the sectorProduce and manage sector-specific content, campaigns or events and relevant directory and award submissions to increase engagement with key clients and enhance the personal brands of leading practitioners and the firm’s global reputationLeverage technology and tools to analyse trends, anticipate and identify opportunities to develop existing clients and services, track key relationships, and measure the success of initiativesBuild trusted relationships with a specific group of senior internal stakeholders and MBD colleagues to achieve a ‘one team’ global mindsetDeliver an agile and responsive bespoke service model based on mutual respect and appreciation of skillsets across the teamContribute to continuous improvement in the firm’s approach to business development, including coaching of colleagues and proactive sharing of knowledge, content and data to centralised toolsHelp manage the career development of more junior colleagues within the BD team, both in terms of mentorship and regular review and advice regarding live work projectsKey requirements (skills/experience)Educated to degree level; with considerable experience (5+ years) in professional organisations (legal, accountancy, technology, consultancy, corporates etc.) Strong emotional intelligence, independent thinking and execution, and mature professional judgmentExcellent teamworking and collaboration skills, with the ability to build strong relationships internally and externallyStrong multi-tasking and project management skills and demonstrated capabilities to manage multiple deadlines and changing project criteria, and resilience under pressureExcellent written, presentation and oral communications skillsExtensive working knowledge of Microsoft Suite softwareAbility to work flexibly in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and high expectations Natural curiosity and propensity to learn; enthusiasm to grow into a rounded business development practitionerProven ability to operate as part of a cross-border, virtual team, working on global projectsExisting knowledge of the Tech sector is not a pre-requisite, but is advantageous
